The aim of the Center is to contribute decisively to the creation of a blue economy  innovation ecosystem where through strategic partnerships with private and public bodies, universities and investors, it will help convert innovative ideas to products and services.  Blue economy refers to industry and business sectors related to the coast and sea. It is noted that the city of Limassol is home to more than 200 companies which provide shipping services, has a multipurpose port, a modern recreational marina and a large tourist and shipping activity.

Innovation is vital for the sustainable development of the Blue Economy, which in turn supports private enterprise, contributes to the protection of the coastal and marine environment, creates employment opportunities and enhances the social well-being for the citizens of Limassol.  The Center operates in direct cooperation and liaison with the two universities of Limassol that have departments in maritime studies, as well as, with other relevant professional bodies and research centers.

Systematically the demand in the labor market in the sector is much greater than the supply.  The Center seeks the systematic dissemination of Knowledge aimed at enlarging the Blue Economy ecosystem seeking to encourage young people to pursue professions relevant to the sector.
