European Mobility Week 2026
16–22 September 2026 | Mobility for Everyone | Limassol moves Laou Laou
Free entrance
The Municipality of Limassol is participating once again in European Mobility Week, which will take place from 16 to 22 September 2026, under the central message “Mobility for Everyone”.
European Mobility Week is the leading European campaign promoting sustainable urban mobility. Its aim is to encourage local authorities and citizens to test and adopt safer, more sustainable and more inclusive ways of moving around the city.
This year’s programme in Limassol is organised under the slogan “Limassol moves Laou Laou”, highlighting the need to experience the city at a slower pace, with more space for people and more options for walking, cycling, public transport, micromobility and accessible movement.
The Cypriot expression “laou laou” means “slowly” or “little by little”. It is an invitation to residents and visitors to slow down, move more consciously and experience the city centre in a different way.
The programme includes actions promoting walking, cycling, public transport, accessibility, road safety, social participation and the sustainable use of public space.
The main event is co-organised by the Municipality of Limassol, the Limassol Tourism Board, Friends of the Earth Cyprus and OPU – Organization for Positive Urbanism.
Car Free Day
Sunday, 20 September 2026 | 11:00–20:00 | Gladstonos Street
The central event of the week will be Car Free Day, which will take place on Sunday, 20 September 2026, from 11:00 to 20:00, on Gladstonos Street.
For one day, the area will be temporarily given back to pedestrians, families, children, cyclists, visitors, organisations and city stakeholders, creating a public space for walking, play, creativity, meeting, participation and sustainable mobility.
Car Free Day aims to demonstrate how a central city street can function when the presence of cars is reduced and people, accessibility, social interaction and public life are brought to the foreground.
As part of the day’s programme, the official presentation of the collaboration between the Municipalities of Limassol, Polemidia and Amathounta and the University of Cyprus and Frederick University will also take place. This collaboration forms part of the broader effort to strengthen knowledge, innovation and participatory planning towards a more sustainable, people-centred and climate-neutral city.
During Car Free Day, the programme will include cycling and intergenerational activities, actions for children and young people, accessibility and inclusion interventions, information booths, road safety education, artistic and creative activities, as well as presentations related to sustainable and smart mobility.
