Restoration of Lady’s Mile coast: Meeting of the Mayor of Limassol with environmental groups
Within the framework of the promotion of restoration of Lady’s Mile coast, the Mayor of Limassol continued with his meetings with the groups involved. Today he met the representatives of Terra Cypria, of Cyprus Centre for Environmental Research and Education and Birdlife Cyprus. During the meeting the Mayor supplied information on the procedures for the promotion of project, emphasizing that the objective is the correct restoration of the coast with respect towards the environment and not its commercial exploitation. In their turn the representatives of these environmental organizations submitted their suggestions and opinions.
As it is known, following the configuration of the preliminary regulating plan for Lady’s Mile by the Planning Authority, the Minister of Interior committed the further promotion of the maturity of the to the Municipality of Limassol.
It is noted that the preliminary regulating plan of the Planning Authority was the result of consultations with many Government Departments and Groups and is adapted to the environmental restrictions that result from the Zones and Agreements for the Protection of Nature that apply in the area taking into consideration at the same time the improvement of accessibility and the provision of basic facilities for the bathers and the visitors of the area.
In addition it has gained approval by Administration of the British Bases and as far as the traffic aspect it has gained approval by The Central Authority for the Resolution of Traffic Problems of the Public Works Department. The preliminary proposal is in accord with the Policy Declaration with the Akrotiri British Bases area.
The Mayor emphasized to those attending that the Municipality considers that the issue of restoration of Lady’s Mile and the adjacent natural habitat is an extremely serious and sensitive matter that affects national wealth and it must receive the relevant administration within this framework. For this purpose the Municipality’s team for the project will be reinforced by a Counselling Guiding Committee of specialised scientists that will provide consultancy services at all stages of the progress of the project.
Aim of the Municipality as declared by the Mayor, is to proceed with all necessary studies and procedures so that the project is included in State Budget of 2022.
