Termination of Contract and new Call for Tenders

29-08-2019

One of the key projects of the Municipality’s Sustainable Urban Development Strategy is the redevelopment of the Misiaouli & Kavazoglou street. The project relates to the upgrade of a road network of approximately 1800m in length, has a total budget of more than €5 million and includes, inter alia, the reconstruction of roads and pavements, the layout of adjacent parking lots, the creation of routes for cyclists and the disabled, the undergrounding of utility networks, tree planting and a new street lightning system.

Following an extensive public consultation, a contract was signed for the execution of the Project in August 2018 with FAP Construction Ltd and the work began in October 2018. Due to various problems, work to date has not been performed as expected. As a result, significant delays occurred that jeopardize the implementation of the project.

In an effort to get the project back on track, the Limassol Municipality concluded a termination agreement with the Contractor that provides for the completion of the works currently being carried out and the exemption of the Contractor from the rest of the project.

Upon reaching the above agreement, the Limassol Municipality has called for tenders for the implementation and completion of the Project the soonest possible as to receive the expected co-financing from the European Regional Development Fund allocated by the European Union for the 2014-2020 Program Period.
