Tree pruning along the seafront

31-01-2019

The Green Department of the Municipality is currently pruning the ficuses located along the narrow strip south of the bike path as well as the eucalyptuses located to the east of the Enaerios dock for public safety reasons and for the survival of the trees.

In particular, due to the construction of the strip south of the bike path, the roots of the ficuses located along it do not have the necessary mechanical support, which puts pedestrians and cyclists at risk from falling trees. With respect to the eucalyptuses, their pruning is essential in order to reduce the excessive vertical and/ or lateral growth of their stems and branches, which could lead to their breakage.

It should be noted that pruned branches and foliage will start growing back in a few weeks.

The Limassol Municipality assures the public that the urban green management is done with reasoning, by applying the necessary cultivation methods and always with the consent and permission of the Department of Forests. This management will continue in an effort to focus more on the aesthetics and appearance of the trees.
