The Limassol Municipality announces the following regarding the oil spill pollution incident that occurred in the Limassol sea area.
On 22 May 2019 in the afternoon, solid and semi-solid waste appeared in the open sea area east of Limassol and headed towards the Limassol bay.
Vessels of both the Department of Fisheries and the marine pollution monitoring company contracted by the Municipality were immediately mobilised to tackle the issue. Since Thursday, 23 May 2019 efforts to clean up the sea area are being made and following consultations between the Department of Fisheries and the Limassol Municipality, the lease of two additional vessels, specially equipped to combat oil spill remnants, was made possible.
