The Mayor of Limassol presented, on behalf of the Municipal Council, a three-year report on the work carried out by the Municipality covering the period between 2017 and 2019.

The report was presented through a multi-page publication which highlighted the collective efforts of the Municipal Council and the projects that were completed, as well as the goals and plans of the Municipality for the future.

It was stated that over these past three years, a number of projects has been completed or is near completion, while new policies have been promoted and new projects are in the process of being planned or implemented.

The city continues to grow at an ever-increasing rate. The development is directed to the whole of the Municipality, to all social strata and districts of our city, but also to the wider urban area of Limassol.

The Municipality has initiated a dialogue with other major Limassol Municipalities, stakeholders and citizens in order to come up with a strategic plan for the future of Limassol. The Mayor said that the Municipality’s goal is for Limassol to be regarded as friendly, green and smart by all citizens and businesses and as a city that supports social cohesion, innovation and entrepreneurship.  He also called on organizations and citizens to participate in this open dialogue.

In his report, the Mayor referred to significant completed projects, ongoing projects and various actions taken on the road network, urban planning, cultural infrastructures and public squares. Ongoing projects include co-financed projects, as well as significant urban development and neighborhood upgrading projects beginning in 2020. The Mayor also mentioned the redevelopment of city landmarks, such the GSO, Heroes’ Square, the Municipal Market and the Municipal Garden, as well as the launch of major anti-flooding construction works for Limassol.

Subsequently, the Mayor referred to the Municipality’s social policies and in particular to the issues of homelessness and affordable housing.  

When it comes to cultural activities, the Mayor referred both to the improvement of existing annual institutions, such as the Carnival and the Wine Festival, and to the introduction of new cultural institutions and programs.

Mr Nicolaides also referred to sports activities and the title of European City of Sport awarded to the Municipality. He also made specific references to projects and programs for the modernisation of the Municipality in general, e-government, the service of citizens, health and the environment.

Finally, the Mayor praised the very important work that was done by the Municipal Committees, thanking the Vice-Mayor, the Municipal Councillors and other Municipal Officials. He expressed his sincere gratitude to all Limassol citizens who, as active citizens, demonstrate high levels of civic engagement and support the work being carried out through their encouragement and constructive criticism. He emphasized that common love for the city is the strongest basis for Limassol to keep moving forward.
