Limassol Carnival 2019 Press Conference

The Limassol Carnival 2019 program, innovative ideas and new elements that were introduced to enrich this year’s festivity were presented over a press conference held today, 22 February at 11.30am at the restaurant IL GUSTO LA PASTERIA ITALIANO.

In his speech, the Mayor of Limassol, Mr Nicos Nicolaides, stressed that the Carnival is the greatest folk festival in our country. It is an institution that constitutes an integral part of the culture and tradition of Limassol. It’s a festivity that has its roots in antiquity and a tradition that has been preserved to this day.  

By organising an 11-day festivity, the Limassol Municipality invites everyone to set their worries, strain and troubles aside, even for a little while, and live moments of joy and carelessness, since Limassol is being transformed once again into an immense fun feast.

The Mayor invited all our compatriots to visit Limassol, become Limassolians for a few days and refuel their lives with power and optimism for the future.

This year, a great number of innovative ideas will be implemented as the product of a public debate between the Municipality and hundreds of carnivalists. This public discussion will be continued so that changes and improvements in the Limassol Carnival can occur both over the following year and the years to come. The Limassol Carnival will continue its course in time, getting better year after year because of Limassolians who will always love and serve it.  

He further mentioned that, as promised last year, this year the Municipality aimed at upgrading and revitalizing the Carnival. With absolute respect for the tradition and collective wisdom that has shaped it in the course of time, this year’s Carnival is enriched with new elements in order to revive older elements that have died out and to confine elements that may have created a cultural fatigue.

He then thanked all sponsors for their valuable support, as well as the restaurant IL GUSTO of PNS restaurants for hosting the press conference.
