Dysfunctionalities in contemporary art / In times of conflict

The Limassol Municipal Arts Centre – Apothikes Papadaki hosts a group exhibition bringing together members of the Cyprus Chamber of Fine Arts (E.K.A.T.E.), titled Dysfunctionalities in Contemporary Art / In Times of Conflict, curated by Katina Kosta, Rebecca Taki and Georgia Michaelide Saad.

The exhibition builds on the ongoing research programme Dysfunctionalities in Contemporary Art, developed by E.K.A.T.E. since 2016 to explore the conditions that shape contemporary artistic practice and broader cultural discourse.

This year's exhibition proposes an open framework for creative expression centred on forms of instability, rupture and conflict that characterise contemporary experience. The concept of dysfunction is approached not only as a social or political condition, but also as a field of tension between reality and illusion, logic and lived experience, and cohesion and fragmentation.

Through their work, the participating artists are invited to explore issues relating to political reality, the limits of freedom of expression, social and human relationships, as well as environmental and ecological concerns, and the ways these shape contemporary life and consciousness. The exhibition functions as an open platform for multiple interpretations and approaches, creating space for works that encourage reflection, critical engagement and dialogue.

The exhibition opens on Friday, 3 July 2026, at 19:00, with welcoming remarks by the Mayor of Limassol, Mr. Yiannis Armeftis.
