Call for tenders for the first 150 housing units in Ayios Nicolaos to be announced within the year
The call for tenders for the construction of the first approximately 150 modern housing units in Ayios Nicolaos will be announced over the course of the year, within the framework of the agreement for affordable housing signed between the Municipality of Limassol and the Cyprus Land Development Corporation (CLDC).
The above was announced by the Mayor of Limassol, Nicos Nicolaides, following the video conference he had today with the president of the CLDC, Marios Pelekanos, and other officials.
The Mayor of Limassol also stated that the techno-economic study for the largest housing project ever undertaken in Cyprus with the involvement of a Municipal Authority has already been completed, the cost of which is expected to reach 100 million Euros. As Nicos Nicolaides explained, both him and the president of the CLDC have decided to set as a goal the signing of the agreement of co-development and co-management of the project by May, while in the next months, if possible within the year, to announce the call for tenders for the construction projects of the A’ phase that includes about 150 housing units in the Ayios Nicolaos area.
It is pointed out that with the agreement between the Municipality and the CLDC which was characterised by the Mayor as historic for the Municipality of Limassol, the construction of hundreds of new housing units in Limasol (in Ayios Nicolaos and Ayios Ioannis) has been launched to cover the housing needs of low-income families, and young couples. Mr Nicolaides also stressed that the whole project is “designed on the basis of the principles of sustainable development and environmental planning, as to provide long-term economic, social and environmental benefits, benefits not only for the vulnerable groups, but also for the whole city, for present and future generations''.
