14-07-2020

Within the framework of the Municipality’s decision for the regeneration of the historic square of the city, the Limassol Municipality awarded the study that stood out in the architectural competition organised for the redevelopment of the Heroes’ Square.

According to a Municipality announcement, the Commission decided not to award 1st and 3rd prizes, while the 2nd prize was awarded to the study carried out by Socrates Stratis and Christos Pasadakis on behalf of the companies AA &U and KIS Architecture.

Speaking at the event, the Mayor of Limassol, Nicos Nicolaides, referred to the regeneration-related procedures, pointing out the fact that the decisions to redevelop Heroes’ Square and to proceed with an architectural competition for this redevelopment were among the first made by the Municipal Council.

Additionally, he stressed that the regeneration of Heroes’ Square aims at upgrading and highlighting the most emblematic and historic square of the city, as a key feature of Limassol.

"The main purpose of the architectural competition was to underline the significance of the Square through the historical and social data, the architectural and monumental elements that characterize the area and have played an important role in the development of the city to date", he added.

All competition entries are exhibited at the “Panos Solomonides” Cultural Centre of the Limassol Municipality until 20 July 2020.
