Limassol Port a Cruise Centre in the Mediterranean
The Mayor of Limassol Mr Nicos Nicolaides called for a meeting through teleconference on Tuesday, 13th of April 2021 so that the basis and the planning for the reception and hosting of visitors of cruises, organized by large companies of the global cruising industry, and specifically by Royal Caribbean, Celestyal Cruises, Carnival Group, et al. would be laid out
During the teleconference representatives from the Deputy-Ministry of Tourism, The Limassol Region Tourism Development and Promotion Company, the President of Limassol Chamber of Commerce and the Chief Executive Officer of the company DP WORLD Limassol took part.
The objective of the conference was the discussion of ways of co-operation of all the relevant entities of the town for the planning and coordination of actions required for the reception and hosting of visitors, by maintaining at the same time all appropriate measures against the pandemic.
Issues relating to the organization of reception functions, cultural events in places of interest in the town, sightseeing tours and other organizational subjects were discussed.
The start of cruises through the Limassol Port next June is expected to have multilateral benefits for the local economy, both short term and long term. The development of this sector is also expected to contribute to the effort for a smooth exit from the crisis and the gradual pick up of the economy after the pandemic.
