“Clean Limassol” through 11 actions
The Municipality of Limassol has launched as of today a city-wide cleaning campaign, presenting at a press conference in the area of Enaerios the new machinery (manual and motor-driven) with which the Cleaning Department has been equipped.
During the presentation, the Mayor of Limassol, Nicos Nicolaides, pointed out that with this campaign, which bears the slogan “Together we take care of our city’s cleanliness”, the Municipality aims to substantially improve the urban environment by enhancing the Municipality’s efficiency and effectiveness through the upgrading of its services. A key element of the campaign, he stressed, is the activation of and cooperation with the citizens, who are called to contribute to the cleanliness of their neighbourhood and our city.
As the Mayor explained, the ongoing “Clean Limassol” campaign consists of a series of parallel actions including the following:
• Strengthening the capacity of the Municipality’s street cleaning staff
• Replacement of old and purchase of new equipment to improve the Cleaning Department’s work efficiency
• Garbage trucks
• Large electric road sweepers
• Manual sweepers
• High pressure cleaners for roads and sidewalks
• Purchase of new waste bins for public spaces
• Incentive schemes for the purchase of household waste bins
• Installation of large Autonomous Mechanical Composters in bio-waste production sites
• Installation (within 2021) of underground and semi-underground waste containers, compressors and waste paper compressors as well as related equipment in selected parts of the city.
• Launch (within 2021) of the sorting at source programme for recyclable and organic waste “Pay as you throw” with a prepaid garbage bag.
The Mayor of Limassol during the presentation of the new campaign thanked the company REMEDICA and Dr Michalis Neoptolemou, CEO of Remedica Group, for donating ten cleaning carts to the Municipality of Limassol. He also thanked the representatives of the volunteering organisations who affirmed that they intend to contribute to the success of the campaign.
