Social Market delivers “500 care packages” over Christmas period

A total of 550 care packages were delivered over the Christmas period by the Municipality’s Social Market, which continues to discreetly provide invaluable support and assistance to families and individuals experiencing financial stress. The packages included food and other products to cover basic needs, while due to the holidays, supermarket vouchers (gift cards) were also given to the beneficiaries so that no child is left without a present this year. The head of the Municipality’s Social Programmes, Christina Tsiamparta, stated that Limassol Municipality, in the context of its social policy, makes sure to help our fellow citizens in need of food or housing, and praised the volunteers’ efforts and contribution to the operation of the Social Market. Specifically, as she explained, in addition to the 200 beneficiaries who are already supported by the Social Market, care packages were delivered during Christmas to another 350 families who reached out to the Social Market for help.

It is reminded that in recent statements, the Mayor of Limassol, Mr Nicos Nicolaides, mentioned that the Social Market of the Municipality of Limassol covers an existing social need. He pointed out that “Unfortunately, there are several families in our city today, who for various reasons are unable to meet their basic needs. He added that “These families cannot be ignored by the Municipality. Besides, among other things, this should be the role of local government. As long as there is even one family in need, the Municipality of Limassol will continue to operate the Social Market”.  Finally, it is clarified that all interested citizens can submit an application along with the necessary certificates and it should be noted that eligibility is based on financial criteria.  Beneficiaries of the Social Market receive a package of food items and other basic necessities about once a month.
