We build Limassol’s future with actions

During the public review established in the last four years the Mayor of Limassol mister Nicos Nicolaides, proceeded into presenting an account of the work carried out by the Municipal Authority and the Municipal Committees during the period 2017-2020. In his account, the  mayor pointed out the diverse work that was produced during the last four years “The devotion to the rules of sound administration, transparency and accountability is our supreme obligation and a basic element of a democratic state within the rule of law”. The basic pillars of the report refer to the strategy for an integrated development of Limassol, the upgrading of the neighbourhoods, the social policies for the working- classes the modernization of the municipal machine and the optimization of the service towards the citizens. In his opening speech the Mayor emphasised that “Every day for four years, with actions, we build the future of Limassol, improving the quality of life for the citizens, giving the prospect of development and prosperity but supporting the working class as well”.

“For the first time,” emphasized mister Nicolaides,” there exists a strategy for complete development for the whole urban area of Greater Limassol and with the co-operation with the rest of the five municipalities €400 millions are claimed for greater Limassol” He added that during the term of the current Municipal Authority 40 development projects have been completed or are in process, while by the end of the year the co-funded works of the programmed period of 2014-2020 will be completed.

“We gave a specific emphasis to the neighbourhoods and the daily life of our citizens ”, mentioned the Mayor, by noting that  in 2021alone works of thirteen million euros for upgrading the quality of life in the local neighbourhoods , in addition of the works under way for the improvement of the daily life of the citizens in matters of cleaning, green areas ,and traffic. In the sector of  social policy, the provision of 600 suitable housing units  is dominant in co-operation with the Cyprus Land Development Corporation, which is the largest project ever carried out in Cyprus in municipal level. Furthermore, the Municipality’s social policy has been upgraded through the services offered by and the Centre for Reintegration of Homeless Persons and the Emergency Centre. Emphasis is also given to culture and the support of Cypriot Artists through various actions, while a special mention is made of the animal welfare actions of the Municipality.

In parallel to the above, after years of deliberation and delays the construction works have commenced for the major anti-flood projects of the Sewerage Board of Limassol- Amathus, to the full budget in the sum of €35 millions.

At the same time, construction of athletic infrastructure works have been promoted in the occasion of Limassol being proclaimed as “European Sports City 20-21”, and policies for upgrading of Limassol into “smart city” and its promotion into regional centre for “Blue Economy” are under way.
