Limassol Municipality stands out for intercultural integration policy - “ICC Certificate” by CoE
The Council of Europe – Directorate of Anti-discrimination congratulated the Municipality of Limassol on the progress it made in 2018 with reference to the active promotion of the principles of intercultural integration and awarded the city with an “ICC Certificate” for its intercultural character and for promoting social cohesion and the well-being of all its inhabitants.
In a letter to the Mayor of Limassol, Mr N. Nicolaides, the head of the Intercultural Cities Unit of the CoE, Ms Ivana D’ Alessandro, highlights the firm commitment of the Municipality and its important achievements in the framework of the intercultural integration policy. She further underlines the fact that Limassol received the “ICC Certificate”, confirming its active participation in the Intercultural Cities Network, an “alliance” of 130 “inclusive cities” across Europe and beyond.
The Intercultural Cities Network is a program implemented by the Council of Europe to help local authorities plan and implement the long-term objective of diversity management and anti-discrimination embraced by progressive cities.
The Limassol Municipality has been implementing actions aiming at the integration of people into the city’s life, without feeling discriminated, as to combat social exclusion.
The Limassol Municipality has been, for many years, the Final Beneficiary – Coordinator of the program “Limassol: one city, the whole world” that supports and facilitates the smooth and effective integration of third country nationals in the local community, co-funded by the European Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund and covering the entire Limassol district.
