350 Easter packages for families in need
Nicos Nicolaides: “Ready to meet the increasing demands”
Our sense of responsibility and solidarity urged us to help the city’s most vulnerable in this time of crisis. Assisted by the compassionate actions and altruistic behaviours of many Limassolians who have contributed to this imitative in any possible way, financially or otherwise, the Municipality was able to support citizens in need.
More specifically:
The packages were given to 350 families that could not secure the essentials for their household, either due to financial hardship or a hole in their income. The appropriate protection measures against Coronavirus were observed during the deliveries. This action came to be added to a series of other actions taken by the Municipality in an effort to relieve our fellow citizens in distress and is part of the Municipality’s social policy.
It should be mentioned that 100 of those packages were delivered to vulnerable groups through an emergency centre put together to offer support on the Covid-19 crisis.
In his statements, the Mayor of Limassol, Nicos Nicolaides, thanked all officials and volunteers for their contribution to this initiative and pointed out that the Limassol Municipality is prepared to meet the increasing demands of its citizens due to the restrictive measures taken against this pandemic.
The President of the Social Welfare Committee, Athena Spyrou, stated that the Municipality’s efforts were reinforced due to the generosity of other citizens.
“I am very happy to see that a great number of citizens and businesses of Limassol have generously donated without being asked, either by providing essential items or by financially contributing to our work. The recipients include many families, thus each package also includes essential items for children”, she concluded.
