Notice – preventive measures for natural disasters in Limassol
The Limassol Municipality, due to the forthcoming winter period, invites the public to take preventive measures as to timely and effectively prevent and/ or address any problems that may arise in case of natural disasters.
The Municipality has already cleaned all storm drains with the contribution of the Road Department and has been undertaking their maintenance throughout July, August and September as required due to the fall of leaves.
Moreover, the Limassol Municipality would like to inform the public that it has also cleaned the entire storm drainage system with a high pressure washer where necessary. However, the contribution and cooperation of the public is greatly needed as well.
In this context, the public is invited to take the following preventive measures:
A) Inspect all storm drains that are located in, in front of, near and/ or opposite their premises to ensure that these are clean and have a natural flow.
B) Do not leave any scattered building materials or scrap objects, which might be swept away by the rain and cause more problems, on sidewalks or open spaces or rivers.
C) Do not cover storm drains with stones, boxes, skips or machines.
C) It is recommended that all basement owners are supplied with water pumps and check and maintain any existing water pumps.
E) Insure all private property and vehicles against flood risks.
The Municipality invites all citizens who need sandbags to contact the Road Department Supervisor, Mr Nikos Kourtellos at 99 453 090.
