Deputy Minister of Tourism supports Limassol goals
The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Savvas Perdios, expressed his support for Limassol’s plans to increase the flow of tourists during a meeting with the Mayor of Limassol and the Mayors of neighbouring municipalities.
Mr Perdios mentioned that it is good to see that Limassol leaves no room for complacency and that over recent years the city has grown even more in terms of promoting the city’s tourist product and services provided.
When asked about the goals of the Limassol port terminal operator (DP World Limassol) when it comes to increasing cruise ship arrivals, Mr Perdios said that our infrastructure has nothing to envy from that of other countries in the region and that measures are taken that allow us to be optimistic about an increase in cruise ship arrivals in the coming years.
Referring to the Brexit, Savvas Perdios said that “it has certainly affected us in terms of tourist bookings. However, the extension given may lead to a last-minute increase in arrivals, without this meaning that we will exceed last year’s figures.”
The time has come, he concluded, to promote Cyprus’ mountains and other forms of tourism, since Cyprus is not just a sun and sea destination.
Speaking to the CNA, on behalf of the Mayors of wider Limassol, the Mayor of Limassol said that he had the opportunity to discuss and share his thoughts on tourism with the Deputy Minister, while efforts to further promote tourism in our city, especially during peak periods, were also put on the table.
He stressed that there is a need to promote Limassol events abroad, and added that “we have the full support and cooperation of the Deputy Ministry and the Deputy Minister himself”. Finally, he mentioned that this bilateral cooperation between the Ministry and Limassol will continue with the aim to maintain a more coordinated effort.
