Minister of Transport and Limassol Mayor discuss the Ayia Fyla Traffic Congestion
The meeting was held today at the Town Hall and was attended by the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Mr Yiannis Karousos, Ministry technocrats, Limassol Mayor, Members of the Parliament, Municipal Councillors, representatives of District Councils and other local bodies.
During the meeting, the traffic problem of the Ayia Fyla roundabout was put on the table and views were exchanged between the attendees on the issue of the 1 April Street, which plagues thousands of citizens travelling to and from Ayia Fyla.
The Limassol Mayor analysed the issue in depth and put forth a series of solutions to alleviate it.
The Minister said that this meeting had been arranged in order to identify solutions to reduce traffic congestion. He continued stating that it was important to promote effective and easily implemented measures. A special committee will be set up under the Minister and the Mayor of Limassol, with the participation of other relevant officials, to monitor the project’s progress every 2 – 3 months. The Minister added that we should not forget solutions such as the creation of park-and-ride facilities and the implementation of sustainable urban mobility since 92% of Limassol residents use their own car. Concluding, the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works mentioned that in cooperation with the Limassol Municipality, he will promote with due diligence a series of measures to effectively tackle the Ayia Fyla traffic congestion issue.
