The Municipality of Limassol refuses to lose hope during the festive period of Christmas, sending out a message of optimism in the midst of the pandemic. The Christmas tree on the decked out Grigori Afxentiou square was lit up during a small ceremony, in the presence of the Mayor and the Municipal Council, but without the presence of the public as to not jeopardise public health.

Speaking at the lighting ceremony, the Mayor sent out a message of support and hope to the citizens of the city, saying that despite the difficulties, we are not going to lose our optimism or our faith in the present and the future of our city. By providing tangible and intangible support to our fellow citizens who are most in need, we will continue with patience and perseverance. Together we will succeed.

Additionally, he stressed that the support of the city should be proportional to the measures taken. “Our city is trying to deal with the consequences of the pandemic and its effects on our vulnerable fellow citizens, workers and businesses. We respect the measures that are necessary, but at the same time we demand a corresponding treatment of our city both in terms of measures and in terms of support for the consequences borne due to the measures”, said the Mayor adding that, “we Limassolians have been acting responsibly towards the city and our families”.
