21 years Municipal Council

The Limassol Student Municipal Councils is a remarkable effort that started 21 years ago, at the initiative of the Limassol Municipality Health and Environment Committee, aiming at raising students' awareness on environmental issues and the Municipality in general. The Student Municipal Councils are greatly supported by students and school administrations and have become a successful institution.

During the Student Municipal Councils, the students of schools within city limits, following the election of a "Mayor", "Deputy Mayor" and "Council" meet at the Town Hall to present their ideas on measures to address issues regarding the environment, energy etc.

The presentations are made to the Chair, the Secretary and Members of the Health and Environment Committee and the Municipal Council, as well as teachers.

The students' effort is commendable and clearly indicates that the new generation has sensitivities and concerns about the problems of our city, has goals and a vision for better life quality.

This institution encourages youngsters to take an interest in the problems of our city and come up with solutions and actively engage in solving problems such as environmental pollution, energy saving, cleanliness etc.  However, it should be noted that this could not have been done without their teachers’ guidance and support.

The children’s deliberations and outcomes are very useful for the Municipality since on a number of occasions, the Municipal Council took the students’ suggestions into consideration to come up with solutions to several problems.

For this year, the Student Municipal Councils will be held as follows:

• Wednesday 03 April 2019 - Lyceum/ T.S Student Municipal Councils

• Thursday 04 April, 2019 - Gymnasium Student Municipal Councils
