Syntagma square opens to the public

20-09-2019

The new and improved Syntagma square has opened to the public. The square is located at the main entrance of the Old Port in Limassol and links the Old Port with the Multifunctional Seaside Park, the Castle and the Limassol Marina.

The project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund for the Programming Period 2014-2020 and in particular by the Operational program “Competitiveness and Sustainable Development: under the “Sustainable Urban Development” priority axis.

The revamp was expected to be completed in six (6) months (November 2018 to April 2019) and the cost amounted to approximately €480.000,00 excluding VAT. Nevertheless, due to the discovery of antiquities found in the area of the project, it had to be delayed to September 2019 in order to amend the initial plans to include the antiquities.

The project will be completed with a construction to highlight the pier that was unearthed on Ermou street during the excavations. The construction will be covered with glass and will protrude approximately 50cm from the floor.
