Severe weather in Limassol

16-02-2019

The Limassol Municipality expresses its regret that fellow citizens were affected by the severe weather phenomena that occurred in our city and suffered damages to their homes. The Municipality has been making great efforts since yesterday to address these issues as soon as possible, while all Municipal forces will remain on the city streets as long as required.

Despite the preventive measures taken by our Municipality, our city is not in a position to cope with extreme rainfall due to deficiencies in rainwater management infrastructures. We have been trying to cover these shortcomings over the past two years, by promoting projects which should have been implemented years ago due to the development of the city. Such works, which are in progress, relate to flood protection projects in Ayia Fyla and Ekali, the installation of a sewer system at Ayias Fylaxeos and Navarinou streets and other areas of Limassol adjacent to the city centre.

The Limassol Municipality, in cooperation with SBLA and other government authorities, makes huge efforts to fill these gaps the soonest and reduce as far as possible the problems Limassol is facing due to severe weather events.
