Another co-financed project completed

2-07-2020

Limassol Mayor, Nicos Nicolaides, described the “Anagennisi” square as a jewel for the area that will upgrade the quality of life of the surrounding residents. This square constitutes the fourth and last square to be reshaped within the framework of a series of projects co-financed by the EU for the period 2014-2020.

In the presence of locals and members of the Municipal Council, Mr Nicolaides officially “handed over” the square to the citizens, stating that upgrading the quality of life in the communities is the main and top priority of the Municipality.

He thanked the former Mayor and Municipal Council for launching this project, noting that this square is the last of four squares that were scheduled to be redeveloped within the framework of a project co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund for the EU Programming period 2014-2020, of a total cost of €2.4 million.

He further mentioned that the Aristides Koudounaris square on Nikos Roussos street, the Syntagma square and the square on the Filellinon street have already been completed.

The Mayor expressed his confidence that the “Anagennisi” square will be embraced by the two adjacent associations (PAO of refugees and Anagennisi) and will be kept “picturesque and clean” for all citizens to enjoy.

The project which cost about €600 thousand, included the redesign of the park, new entrances, lighting, a rainwater harvesting system, an area for the organisation of small-scale events, an upgraded playground, fitness equipment, a fountain, parking spaces, greenery, facilities for people with disabilities etc.

The redevelopment of these squares, noted the Mayor, comes to support the efforts of the Municipality to create green neighbourhoods and upgrade the districts of Ayios Spyridonas, Omonia-Zakaki and Ayios Nicolaos.
