Award of the "EU Mission Label" honorary title to the Municipality of Limassol

With great pride and sense of responsibility, Limassol Municipality announces that today, 21 March 2024, has been awarded the “EU Mission Label”!

The “EU Mission Label” is an important milestone as it recognizes the cities' plans to achieve climate-neutrality by 2030 and aims to facilitate access to public and private funding towards that objective.

The awarding of the “EU Mission Label” to Limassol Municipality is an acknowledgement of the successful development of the Limassol Climate City Contract, which outlines the city’s overall vision for climate neutrality, and contains an action plan as well as an investment strategy. Limassol Municipality co-created its Climate City Contract with dozens of national and local public and private stakeholders, hundreeds of scientists, professionals and citizens. 

The Limassol Municipality submitted its Climate City Contract in November 2023; it was reviewed by the European Commission with the support of experts, including from the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Joint Research Centre (JRC). Following a positive review, the Limassol Municipality receives today, 21 March 2024 the “EU Mission Label” as a recognition of the work done, encouragement to continue, funding facilitaton and challenge to implement!

The Limassol Municipality invites you to attend the information and celebration ceremony on the 27^th of March, 2024 at 18:00 at the Municipal Cultural Centre Panos Solomonidis during which we will discuss the opportunities and plans for a climate neutral and smart Limassol by 2030.
