Municipality of Limassol: Workshop against Rumours "Fighting stereotypes through, culture, education and sports".

The project “Limassol – a city, the whole world” starts an online workshop against rumours, by applying an innovative and scientifically proved methodology which was developed mutually by the Council of Europe and the organization Anti-Rumours International in Barcelona.

Limassol Municipality and the Intercultural Council of Limassol in the framework of the project: “Limassol, a city, the whole world”, will carry out a series of actions (consultations, workshop, evaluation of rumours, ways of refuting these rumour allegations) in order to determine and review the existing stereotypes, prejudices and decompose the false rumours for immigrants, refugees, minorities and other groups as well. These activities aim to increase the levels of acceptance and the cultivation of tolerable mentality, and the promotion of positive approach to diversity, like the xenophobic tendencies and discrimination in the local community.

The workshop will be in English and take place online over four days with a total duration eight hours. The experts from the Council of Europe of the organization Anti-rumour International in Barcelona, Daniel de Torres and Gemma Pinyol – Jimenez will be doing the training and the Multiculturalism Councillor of Limassol Municipality will co-ordinate.

The project “Limassol – a city, the whole world”, has been taking place since 2013 headed by the Municipality of Limassol, offering services for the support of the integration procedures for the Third Country Nationals in the local community of Limassol. The new period of materialization of the programme lasts for eighteen months – from September of 2020 to February of 2022 – with a budget 200,000euro and participants in this project are the  Municipality of Germasogeia, the Municipality of Agios Athanasios, the  Community Volunteer Council of Mesa Geitonia and the company Opinion & Action.
