Establishment of Excellence Research Centre for Earth Surveillance and Space-Based Monitoring of the Environment at CUT

The Limassol Municipality as a proponent of the EXCELSIOR Programme during both Phase 1 and Phase 2, congratulates the Cyprus University of Technology on securing one (1) of the 14 research programs for the establishment of an Excellence Research Centre under the H2020/TEAMING funding programme.  The research program bears the title: “ERATOSTHENES: Excellence Research Centre for Earth Surveillance and Space-Based Monitoring of the Environment (EXCELSIOR)” and is coordinated by the Cyprus University of Technology. The aim is the creation of an Excellence Centre to carry out basic and applied research in the fields of earth surveillance and space technologies. The total amount of €30 million will be invested for the creation of the Excellence Centre.  In particular, €15 million will be provided by the EU Program Horizon 2020 and the remaining €15 million by the Republic of Cyprus.

The Limassol Municipality will be collaborating with the new Excellence Centre on applied research using satellite remote sensing and geo-informatics applications to solve issues related to the Municipality’s activities for the benefit of society and on co-organising seminars and events to inform the general public.  The Limassol Municipality welcomes the creation of more than 120 jobs at the Centre of Excellence. Our goal is to make Limassol a city of Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
