ONLINE PRESS RELEASE “Limassol: A city, the whole world” – Overcoming Prejudices and Stereotypes

12-01-2021

The fight against prejudices and rumours at the expense of immigrants will be the main focus of a press conference organised by the Municipality of Limassol and its partners, held in the framework of the project “Limassol: A city, the whole world”.

Experts from Barcelona will be sharing good practices examples deriving from their own anti-rumour campaign. A similar initiative will be developed by the Municipality of Limassol, while the journalist Michalis Papaevagorou will refer to experiences and incidents of fake news and rumours spread about immigrants.

The press conference will be held online due to the pandemic restrictions.

During the event, the Mayors of Limassol, Ayios Athanasios, Mesa Geitonia and Germasogeia will address the public, followed by a presentation of the project “Limassol: A city, the whole world”. The project has been implemented since 2013 and aims at supporting the process of integration of immigrants and third-country nationals in the local community. Its implementation period has been renewed for 18 months - from September 2020 to February 2022 - with a budget of €200,000.

The press conference will be followed by a discussion between experts on anti-rumour strategies based on their experiences in Cyprus and Europe, while a Q&A session will be held at the end of the discussion.
