29-11-2019

The recycling unit in Fasoula was inaugurated by the honourable Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Costas Kadis, in the presence of Limassol Municipality and CRC (RESOURCE RECOVERY CYPRUS) officials. The Minister described the unit described the unit as a model and invited other Municipalities and businessmen to follow this example.

He emphasized that the government stands by such initiatives and congratulated all parties involved, namely the Limassol Municipality and the Mayor of Limassol, Nicos Nicolaides, the RRC Company and its Chief Executive Officer, Savvinos Lofitis.

Today, the Recycling Unit is fully operational. Hundreds of tons of waste arrive daily at the unit, which are then processed, separated and recycled by means of the special machinery installed.

Materials are initially sorted and recycled according to their type (crushing, sieving etc.) and are then stored in piles per category of recyclable material (General backfill material, drainage sand, compost). Subsequently, each pile is inspected by accredited laboratories, in accordance with the requirements laid down by national and Communication legislation, and after obtaining the necessary documents, the materials are placed on the market.

The policy of both the Limassol Municipality and RRC includes the proper operation of the unit in accordance with the regulations of the Republic of Cyprus and EU. This applies to all production stages, from the arrival of materials to the disposal of the final recyclable products.

In addition to the full operation of the unit, works are carried out to restore the surrounding area. So far 700 saplings have been planted, while the goal is to plant a total of 20 thousand saplings!

The areas restored could also be used for the construction of playgrounds, an environmental park for school trips, sports venues, dog parks etc.
