Precautionary measures for the winter period

In the face of the forthcoming winter period further to the precautionary measures taken by the Municipality of Limassol such as the cleaning of culverts and drains, as well as measures taken by other Relevant Authorities, the Municipality of Limassol urges the residents to prepare suitably every premise, house, shop or store, so as to have early and effective prevention of problems that may occur during intensive rainfall, by taking the following measures:

  1. Avoid placing waste or recycle material on public or other places where there is possibility of them to be carried away by bad weather.
  1. Check that all the rainwater drains which are in or in front of their properties are clean and allow natural flow.
  2. To secure objects that may be moved by intense weather and cause damage or injuries.
  3. Avoid leaving building materials or waste matter on pavements or in open spaces or rivers. All contractors are requested to take additional measures to avoid falling or floating objects due to heavy winds.
  4. To avoid crossing torrents and streams during storms and rainy weather and not do so for some time well after the end of these weather phenomena.
  5. To avoid work in the open and activities in sea and coastal areas during the phenomena of intense weather.
  6. To avoid movement under large trees, under signposts and generally in areas where light objects (such as flower pots, broken windows etc) may dislodge and fall to the ground (e.g. under balconies).
