Limassol Municipality and Ministry of Health sign Memorandum of Understanding

The Memorandum was signed on Friday, 14 June 2019 at the initiative of the Ministry of Health and the Municipalities of Aglantzia, Lakatamia, Limassol and Strovolos, under the Healthy Cities Program of the World Health Organisation.

The purpose of the Agreement is the establishment of cooperation between all parties involved, aiming at implementing actions in the Municipalities of Cyprus for the promotion of Health Policies to promote health and improve the environment and social care at a local level based on the WHO principles “Health for All” and the UN “Agenda 20”, “Agenda 21”. Upon signing the Memorandum, the Municipalities adopted the WHO Health Policies and Cyprus was registered in the National Healthy Cities Networks.

At the same time, the 2018 Copenhagen Consensus of Mayors on ”Healthier and Happier Cities for All” was also signed.

Cooperation is expected to be mutually beneficial and help to further strengthen collaboration between public bodies to address common Public Health challenges.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the Ministry of Health, the Director of Medical and Public Health Services, Dr Elisavet Constantinou and the Mayors of the five Municipalities.
