The Municipality of Limassol proceeds with model tree planting on Spyros Kyprianou avenue and Archbishop Makarios III avenue
Clelia Vassiliou, the Commissioner for the Environment visited the Mayor of Limassol Mr Nicos Nicolaides yesterday, for a discussion on subjects regarding the environmental actions of the Municipality.
The meeting agenda included a series of subjects concerning the problems of the natural environment which is deteriorating in the major urban centres.
The subject of climate change was also discussed and the actions that must take place especially in the urban centres, whereas reference was also made with regards to the green policy for the urban green adopted by the Limassol Municipality.
As it was stated by Mr Nicos Nicolaides, the intention of the Municipality is to proceed with tree planting in two main street arteries, Spyros Kyprianou Avenue spanning a length 2.5 kilometres, and a part of the west section of Archbishop Makarios Avenue of approximate 3.0 kilometres. For the above subject in particular, during the meeting there was a teleconference with the Director of the Forests Department, Mr Chalarambos Alexandrou so that the criteria are set for the selection of trees to be planted on the above avenues.
For the final planning of the tree-planting, the relevant decisions are expected to take place in next few days.
