Joint project “Intercultural Twinning: Cultural Diversity for Inclusive Growth” meets with success

The videoconference held on 26 December between the Mayors of Ioannina and Limassol, accompanied by high-ranking municipal officials and representatives of collaborating organisations culminated in the successful completion of the joint project entitled “Intercultural Twinning: Cultural Diversity for Inclusive Growth”.

As part of the project, the two municipalities - twinned since 1984 and both members of the ICC programme - have carried out a series of information and structured dialogue actions with institutions, organisations and local authorities in order to promote the cultural diversity as an asset and an advantage for inclusive growth in the post-pandemic era.  

In addition to the high-ranking officials of the collaborating  Municipalities, civil society organisations, companies and their associations, chambers of commerce, employers’ federations, trade unions, NGOs (dealing with development, immigration and youth), universities, and members of the Limassol Intercultural Council and other municipalities in the area of Northern Epirus contributed to the realisation of the project, thus aiming to create a permanent platform for constructive dialogue, where diversity emerges as a comparative advantage of modern cities.  

The videoconference was addressed by the Mayor of Ioannina, Mr Moses Elisaf and the Mayor of Limassol, Mr Nicos Nicolaides, as well as a representative of the Council of Europe. The draft text of our Joint Declaration entitled “Cultural Diversity as an advantage for Economic Development and Social Cohesion” was read, act by which the two municipalities proceeded with a symbolic “intercultural” twinning. The Declaration calls on various institutions and bodies of the public and private sector, as well as the civil society of Cyprus, Greece and internationally, to develop coordinated actions as to promote cultural diversity in the workplace towards sustainable and inclusive growth.
