Limassol Municipality sweeps five CYPRUS TOURISM AWARDS 2020

The Limassol Municipality Multifunctional Seaside Park won the gold award in the category Destinations – Tourist Attractions at the Cyprus Tourism Awards 2020. Receiving the award, Limassol Mayor, Nicos Nicolaides, thanked the jury for this honour and pointed out that the Multifunctional Seaside Park (Limassol pier (molos) regeneration) was a project that determined the course to be followed by Limassol.

"Through this project”, he said, “it was possible to link the waterfront to the city fabric both functionally and semantically by providing various accesses and configuring the coastal front to restore the long lost functional relationship of the city centre with the sea.  

However, the most important thing, he continued, is the use of this project, its social benefit and added value.

Nowadays, the Limassol coastal front is bustling with life and is considered one of the most important places for walking, sports, rest and recreation not only for Limassolians but also for thousands of visitors”. Finally, the Mayor thanked all those who worked to put this project together (former Municipal Councils and Mayors, Government Services) and of course the staff of the Limassol Municipality who are still working to operate and maintain it.

The OPAP Limassol Marathon GSO was also awarded by the Cyprus Tourism Awards. More precisely, the OPAP Limassol Marathon GSO together with the Limassol Municipality received a gold award in the Strategic Investment/ Cooperation category, a silver award in the category of Initiatives to extend the tourist season, for their contribution in the extension of the tourist period, and a bronze award in the Sports category for being the largest sporting event in Cyprus. The institution also won the bronze award in the Initiatives to protect the environment/ Raising awareness category for the launch of the GO BLUE campaign!

It should be noted that the Limassol Marathon has come a long way since its establishment 13 years ago. Its unique coastal route and team of professional and visionary organisers surpassing themselves each year have turned it into one of the best marathons in the world. The OPAP Limassol Marathon GSO is a major sporting event organised under the umbrella of LEMESIA – the largest sporting year-round event in our county – that apart from its contribution to sports, it also raises social awareness by actively supporting charitable causes and organisations of our country.
