Announcement on the Karnagio area

The Limassol Municipality in response to a press report relating to the situation prevailing in the Karnagio area – the coastal stretch of land between the old and new Limassol ports – announces the following:

1. The area, according to the Legislation in force, is not classified as a swimming area and up until today cleanliness is made possible and maintained by a joint collaboration between the Limassol Municipality and the District Administration.
2. The Limassol Municipality ensures the cleaning of the areas around the beach at regular intervals (almost once a week), in an effort to tackle the problem of pollution caused by unconscionable waste disposal.
3. The plots adjacent to the area are cleaned up every summer by the Municipality’s services and the relevant fees are paid by the owners of the plots.
4. Finally, the Limassol Municipality together with several local Learning Organisations and Corporations, such as Schools and Companies, undertake Clean-up Campaigns to keep the beach area clean.
