Multilateral meeting between Limassol Mayor and Theopemptou on development projects of environmental significance
Despite the problems caused by the health crisis, the sustainable development projects undertaken in several parts of Limassol are running smoothly and are expected to be completed on time. The Green Neighbourhoods project, the expansion of the Garyllis Linear Park, the improvement of the Public Garden with new infrastructure, the “Green Walk”, the flood control works and other development interventions of the local Authority were discussed during the multilateral meeting between the Limassol Municipality and the Movement of Ecologists – Citizens’ Cooperation.
The Mayor of Limassol, Nicos Nicolaides, together with Municipal Councillors, technocrats and officials, made an extensive presentation of the new projects that are shaping Limassol and are progressively turning it into a “friendly and attractive city for social, environmental and business activities”, with the help of Municipal and European funds. Especially regarding the three new Green Neighbourhoods, in Zakaki - Omonia, Ayios Spyridonas and Ayios Nicolaos, Mr Nicolaides pointed out that the response of the citizens was warm and affirming. Our goal, he stressed, is to improve the quality of life in these neighbourhoods, which until recently, for various reasons, were subject to environmental degradation and social isolation. Among other things, the Municipality plans to create green streets, sidewalks, infrastructure for people with disabilities, meeting places, on-street parking, while preserving and increasing the greenery in order to meet the needs of the residents of each area.
