Limassol enters the home stretch of neighbourhood upgrade project
The upgrade of Limassol’s neighbourhoods is only a matter of time. Following the announcement of a call for tenders for the Green Neighbourhood project in the area of Omonoia, a call for tenders regarding the Green Neighbourhood project in the area of Ayios Spyridonas – Zakaki was announced on Friday, 15/1/21. The budget of the project amounts to a total of 2.6 million Euros, the construction works of which will begin within the current year. It is reminded that this was preceded by a public consultation, during which the plans of the project were presented and the views of all stakeholders and residents of the affected areas were taken into account. The Mayor of Limassol, Nicos Nicolaides, had stressed that upgrading the quality of life in these neighbourhoods is a top priority so as to work towards a balanced and dynamic development of the wider region and to breathe new life and colour to the said big neighbourhoods.
As mentioned during the presentation of the project by consultants, all environmental roads will feature sidewalks, on-street parking spaces, meeting spaces, greenery, urban equipment, etc. Environmental roads will also be designed taking into consideration people with disabilities.
A call for tenders has been announced for both Green Neighbourhoods. Greenery will be maintained and reinforced, trees will be planted on all sidewalks of a width of 2.5 metres or greater, while smaller trees will be planted on narrower sidewalks. Overall, it is estimated that more than 500 trees will be planted in each neighbourhood.
