Lemesia celebrates 20 years of offering

Lemesia, one of most important sporting events organised by the Limassol Municipality, is celebrating 20 years of contribution to the world of sports.  The popular event is back, introducing this year even more sports and sending out the message “Live, be active in your city”.

During a Press Conference for the official presentation of the 20^th Lemesia event, the Mayor of Limassol, Nicos Nicolaides, stressed that these 20 years constitute a milestone for sports, noting that Lemesia celebrates 20 years of sporting presence and offer to the citizen. With the message “Live, be active in your city”, the Municipality identifies Lemesia with citizens and Limassol, giving the opportunity to citizens to participate in 25 sports and activities that have been included in this year’s calendar, to exercise and enjoy themselves, said Mr Nicolaides. Emphasis will be placed on charity and fundraising to highlight the value of offering and cooperation, while corporate and catering areas will be set up. Blood donations aimed at helping people in need, as well as sports activities, seminars and workshops for companies to promote corporate wellness will also be organised. Referring to the sporting events of Lemesia, the Mayor of Limassol added that this year’s event began with the organisation of the Limassol OPAP Marathon last March and will be completed in November with the Limassol Down Town Spring Regatta at Limassol Marina. The program includes sports events such as boxing, karate, night races, gymnastics, fencing, rowing, beach water polo, basket 3on3 etc.

The Chairman of the Limassol Municipality Youth and Sports Committee, Loizos Mavroudes, referred to the innovations and new sports that are part of this year’s program. Over the years, Mr Mavroudes said, the event has gained loyal supporters who root for the effort that is being made to maintain and expand the institution. Finally, he added that the Lemesia event is organised every year and constitutes a great part of our lives, providing us with the opportunity to make exercise a lifestyle.
