Cooperation Limassol Municipality and animal welfare organizations

A meeting on animal welfare and the regulation of dog walking in public spaces was held on Monday, 10.9.2018 at the Town Hall in the presence of the Mayor, a delegation of municipal groups and representatives of organisations.

The meeting was attended by representatives of organised groups and other citizens who participated in an open and productive dialogue.  

The Mayor of Limassol explained to the attendees the reasons behind the Municipal Council’s recent decision on the Multifunctional Seaside Park.

Both the need to implement the existing legislation and the weaknesses of its provisions preventing the Municipality from implementing it were highlighted by all attendees.

At the end of the meeting the Municipality of Limassol and the animal welfare organisations agreed on their between cooperation based on three (3) axes –

1. Briefing – keep the public up to date, implement legislation and regulations.
2. Formulation of a Legislative Proposal to amend the legislation
3. Animal welfare measures (off-leash park etc.)

The Municipality will proceed with further evaluation of all the proposals put forward at the meeting with a view to promoting the most effective ways of achieving the above objectives.
