28-08-2019

The 58th Limassol Wine Festival opens its doors to visitors on Friday, 30 August at the Municipal Gardens. The event will take place between 30 August and 8 September and will host an array of performances, including an open-air cinema where people can enjoy Greek all-time classic movies under the stars, several theatrical performances, a sign language theatre and a magic show by the world-renowned Liotatis magicians.

During a press conference held in front of the trademark statue of Vrakas, the Mayor of Limassol, Mr Nicos Nicolaides said that Limassol is celebrating Cyprus wine and winemakers once again and invited people to the Wine Festival.

This year’s innovations, as Mr Nicolaides mentioned, include the embellishment of the Municipal Gardens’ main entrance facade.

Mr Nicolaides said that after many years, the winepress is switching places with a new music stage where music performances by Serenaders will be hosted.  He also mentioned that a station is set up, specially dedicated to children’s shows and activities.

It should be mentioned that this year’s Festival will be dedicated to the late journalist, cartoonist and artist George Mavrogenis who has played a pivotal role in establishing the Wine Festival as we know it today.

The Festival will be inaugurated on Friday at 8.00pm by the Minister of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Mr Yiorgos Lakkoytrypis.
